More than 100 applicants for the CEO of Jyväskylän Yritystehdas

More than 100 people have applied for the CEO position of Jyväskylän Yritystehdas. The application period ended on 31 October 2017. Jyväskylän Yritystehdas (Jyväskylä Business and Innovation Factory) is a joint service company of the City of Jyväskylä, the University of Jyväskylä, JAMK University of Applied Sciences and the Jyväskylä Educational Consortium Gradia. Its purpose is to promote entrepreneurship, form a community that serves start-up companies in the Jyväskylä region and develop entrepreneurship studies in cooperation with the owner organisations.

The company is seeking a CEO who is able to encourage new entrepreneurs, promote entrepreneurial activity and help to find ways and ideas for new entrepreneurship originating especially from the educational institutions. People with various professional backgrounds have applied for the position, and some applicants have very versatile managerial experience. The applicants come from both private and public sector and from many locations across Finland.

The high number of applicants indicates great interest towards the new kind of position as a promoter and developer of entrepreneurial cooperation between the educational institutions and the City of Jyväskylä. The new CEO will be appointed in December and will start in the position when best suitable. The owner organisations have appointed the board to prepare the start of the company alongside the CEO selection. The appointed board members are chair Risto Kovala (City of Jyväskylä), Mari Suoranta (University of Jyväskylä), Pasi Raiskinmäki (JAMK University of Applied Sciences) and Anu Tokila (Jyväskylä Educational Consortium Gradia). The board will invite an additional shareholders’ meeting to reinforce the board with external members.

Actions to establish the company are now in progress and the goal is to register the company by the end of November. The company has applied for an auxiliary business name selected in a name competition. The name will be published along the process and the new brand will be built around the new name. Also options for the company’s office premises have been surveyed. At the moment it is investigated how the company’s products and services would be accommodated in these premises.

The company will utilise the expertise, products and services of the educational institutions and the city and develop them further in cooperation and taking the different customer groups of the owner organisations into consideration. The company’s operative team is currently developing the company’s product and service portfolio.
