Pekka Risku to be new Director of the Teacher Education College

At a meeting on 27 April, the JAMK University of Applied Sciences Ltd Board of Directors elected Pekka Risku as Director of the Teacher Education College.

Originally from Muurame, Pekka Risku, Ph.D. defended his thesis in the field of Information Technology at the University of Jyväskylä in 1996. His thesis discussed a computer-based mathematics learning environment in engineering education. Pekka will transfer to his new position from the position of Head of the Unit of Technology and Logistics at Jyväskylä College, which he has held since 2008. In 1997–2008, he was Head Teacher at the Upper Secondary School of Muurame, where he was the first to establish an upper secondary school for entrepreneurship, for example. In 1995–1997, Pekka worked as Principal Lecturer of Information Technology at JAMK.

In the selection of the Director of the Teacher Education College, Pekka Risku’s strong points were considered to be his great expertise in vocational upper secondary education and experience with managing educational institutes. He is also very interested in the development of teacher education. The JAMK University of Applied Sciences Ltd Board of Directors were unanimous in their choice.

Pekka Risku will start in his new position on 3 August 2015.
