EUR-ACE quality label for JAMK’s Mechanical Engineering

The technical specialist group of the Finnish Education Evaluation Centre decided at its meeting on 28 May that JAMK’s Mechanical Engineering degree programme passes the engineering programme review. The programme was granted the EUR-ACE Bachelor quality label, which is valid until 28 May 2021.

According to the review group, the key strengths of the degree programme are its close co-operation with the local industry in student and product development projects as well as its international nature. The students have good opportunities for exchange studies and student projects with the industry abroad. The teachers are also actively involved in international exchange. Another of its strengths is how it listens to the voice of the students, giving them the opportunity to have an influence in the development of the education.

Good practices mentioned by the review group included the intermediate feedback provided on courses and the international product development course, during which Finnish and foreign students work in international teams and solve real product development challenges received from companies.

“The accreditation result shows that the quality of our mechanical engineering operations meets the international criteria. The internationally recognised quality label is a good starting point for the further development of our international mechanical engineering operations,” says Principal Lecturer Harri Peuranen.

The development measures recommended by the review group included increasing the amount of practical laboratory and workshop work.
