JAMK’s English-language engineering degree programme makes history

JAMK’s English-language degree programme in Logistics Engineering has been awarded the prestigious EUR-ACE accreditation. JAMK’s degree programme is the first Finnish degree programme at the level of universities of applied sciences to achieve the international quality label.

Awarding of EUR-ACE accreditation is authorised by the European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE). In Finland, the Finnish Higher Education Evaluation Council is authorised to award accreditation.

The accreditation is important to JAMK because it shows that the degree programme in Logistics Engineering has the same quality criteria as similar degree programmes in Europe’s leading educational institutes.

“For people applying to study here, it is a sign that our degree programme stands up to quality comparison. I believe that the engineers to graduate from JAMK also have a higher-than-usual job market value. All in all, the accreditation process has been an opportunity for us to further develop our operations,” says Sami Kantanen, Head of Department, Logistics.

Senior Lecturer Tommi Franssila, who is responsible for the English-language Logistics education, voices his satisfaction and says that accreditation is proof of the quality of the degree programme activities – things are being done right.

“This acknowledgement also means that we must keep doing things right and developing them further. The accreditation opens up new opportunities for us for co-operation with international universities and other institutes of higher education. Recognised quality also offers us new opportunities in corporate co-operation.”
