Studying in English opens doors to international jobs

JAMK University of Applied Sciences offers many options for studying in English. There are three English-language degree programmes and 140 study places available in the joint national university-polytechnic applications starting on 7 January: Nursing, International Business and Logistics Engineering.

The nurses will graduate as Bachelors of Health Care, International Business is a Business Administration education in English, and Logistics Engineering produces engineers for international logistics positions.  You can also apply for a degree programme in teacher education in English in January and, later in the spring, you can apply for English-language master’s degree programmes.

In the groups starting next autumn, half the students are Finnish and the rest come from other countries, including Russia, Vietnam and Kenya. Throughout their studies, students also get to learn about other cultures and network on an international level even before they graduate.

– The language of instruction is English, but there is no reason to be nervous of applying for an international group just because of the language; you can get by with basic language skills, says Logistics Senior Lecturer Tommi Franssila encouragingly.

In addition to traditional classroom teaching, the studies involve a variety of seminars and study tours to ports around the world, for example.

– Compulsory practical training abroad and paid practical training worth 30 ECTS credit are an important part of the studies, says Franssila. There is financial aid available for studying abroad, and students can also apply for various grants.

Logistics engineers who graduate from English-language degree programmes are extremely hot currency on the job market; according to a survey conducted a year after graduation, their employment rate was 100%.

The scope of the degrees ranges from 210 to 240 ECTS credits, and the studies take around 3.5–4 years on average. The application period will continue until 11 February, and applications can be submitted at the address www.admissions.fi.
