Orientation Days in Helsinki, 31 May - 2 June 2024

Fresh and surprising. Dynamic and lively. Enjoy the slow rhythm of urban Helsinki. Explore and be inspired. The Summer School experience starts with a weekend in our beautiful capital Helsinki. Our student tutors will meet you at your arrival to Finland and guide and spend time with you and your fellow students in Helsinki. Professional tour guides will take you for a city tour and show the most interesting attractions and sights, such as the Senate Square, Helsinki Cathedral, Sibelius Monument etc. Helsinki is a modern city with half a million residents and yet full of history and small enough for you to get around easily. We will also open our Summer School in Helsinki as part of your orientation.  After enjoying the capital’s summertime hustle and bustle, you can hop on one of our buses taking you directly to Jyväskylä. Accommodation note: the admin fee covers your stay at Eurohostel (see the page concerning fees).

Schedule (Finnish time)

Friday 31 May

  • Landing in Helsinki-Vantaa airport. Our student tutors will meet you upon arrival to Helsinki Airport. 
  • Accommodation. Our student tutors will then guide you to your accommodation by public transport and check that your accommodation is fine.
  • Free time! After getting your luggage to the hostel, you'll have free time for the rest of the day.

Saturday 1 June

  • 9:30 a.m. Be ready in the lobby of your accommodation.
  • 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Official City Tour by bus with a local tour guide. Professional tour guides will take you on a city tour and show you the most interesting attractions and sights, such as the Senate Square, Helsinki Cathedral, Sibelius Monument etc.
  • Lunch (at own expense)

Sunday 2 June

  • 11:00 a.m. Departure to the city of Porvoo by bus from your accommodation. Check your belongings before leaving the hostel
  • 12:00 p.m. arrival to Porvoo, walking city tour downtown with the official guides
  • 2:30 p.m. departure to Jyväskylä by bus
  • 3:00 p.m. stop for buffet lunch (at own expense)
  • 8:00 p.m. Arrival to Jyväskylä

Monday 3 June

  • 8:45 a.m. Meeting student tutors (buddies) at the place where you stay. Walking to the Rajakatu campus (15 minutes walk).
  • 9:00 a.m. Courses start.
  • 4:00 p.m. Opening ceremony and orientation

Visit historic Turku, Finland, 13-16 June 2024

Please note that this weekend trip to Turku is included in the program and is thus mandatory for participation. To avoid paying for the accommodation also in Jyväskylä while you are in Turku, you must check out from the accommodation in Jyväskylä on 13 June and you will check in back to the accommodation on 16 June.

Visit Turku - a Historic City with a Modern Heart! Founded almost 800 years ago (in 1229), Turku is the oldest city and former capital of Finland. The city takes pride in its long cultural history. The historic experience is only heightened by the beautiful archipelago surrounding the city.

More information about the Turku trip:

  • Price: Please note that the bus transfer, guided city tour, and visit to the castle are included in the summer school fee. 
    • Accommodation (including buffet breakfast) is paid separately by each student upon arrival at the hotel on 13 June 2024.
      • The Summer School takes care of booking accommodation for students in Turku.
    • The price for the 3-night accommodation is 210 EUR/person in a double room.
    • For these 3 nights, accommodation in Jyväskylä does not need to be paid.
      • Important: Remember to book accommodation in Jyväskylä only from 2 June to 13 June and from 16 June to 20 June.
    • Food costs are at own expense.
  • The journey to Turku begins on 13 June after classes, and on 16 June, we will be returning to Jyväskylä.
  • Please note: Students going to Stockholm (14-16 June) are going to Turku on 13 June with the group and leave from Turku to Helsinki Airport on 14 June. In this case, the student has to pay only for 1 night in Turku (70 EUR/student in a double room).

Optional Weekend Study Tours

You can join our excursion to Tallinn, Estonia on June 8. If you want to visit Sweden's capital Stockholm instead of Turku, you can visit Stockholm on 14-16 June.

Tallinn, Estonia 8 June 2024 (a day trip)

Welcome to Tallinn - The Times We Had! Tallinn - the Estonian Capital, is known for its medieval Old Town with places of fascinating contrasts. The city centre boasts of beautiful churches and major landmarks nestled between modern high-rises. All sights are conveniently located only a short stroll away from each other.

Spend a weekend in Stunning Stockholm, Sweden, 14-16 June 2024

The beautiful capital of Sweden is built on 14 islands around one of the Europe’s largest and best-preserved medieval city centres. The list of things to do in Stockholm is endless and there are more than a hundred attractions to choose from. You can visit the Royal Palace, amusement park, museums, parks, historical sites, go shopping or just walk around the beautiful Old Town, one of the foremost attractions in Stockholm, founded in 1252.
