Requirements for eligibility

Requirements for eligibility

  • Complete altogether at least 55 ECTS credits that can be recognised as part of the degree programme
  • Complete a compulsory mathematics course worth at least 3 ECTS credits (when applying for bachelor's degrees in engineering or in construction management)
  • Please note, that only 10 ECTS credits can be elective studies of the 55 credits.
  • Weighted average of all studies must be at least 3.00

Language studies are not required. Accredited studies are not accepted as part of the open university studies required for eligibility, but accredited studies are considered only as part of the degree as a degree student.

Studies completed at all open universities in Finland are accepted if the studies are suitable for the applied degree. The studies may have been completed as suitable for the degree, known as path studies or individual courses.

It is recommended to check the suitability of the studies from the senior lecturer of degree programme.

Deadlines for completing Open UAS Studies

Studies completed at Jamk have to be registered by 20 June 2024.

If the applicant has completed some/all studies at other Open UAS/University (also Campusonline studies completed during as a Open UAS path student), the studies have to be registered by 31 May 2024 and the applicant has to attach the transcript to the application by 31 May 2024 by 3.00 p.m. Finnish time at the latest.

Calculating Weighted Average of Open UAS Studies

The weighted average* is calculated from the completed open UAS/university study courses as follows:

  • The average for applicants who have completed their open studies at Jamk is calculated based on all open study courses registered to Peppi (completed by 20 June 2024). The applicant may have several transcripts of records that include open study credits. In that case, all transcript of records are considered to the calculation of the weighted average.
  • The average for applicants who have completed their open studies in other open UAS/university than at Jamk is calculated based on all open study courses stated on their Open Study Path application (completed by 31 May 2024). The applicant may have several transcripts of records that include open study credits. In that case, all transcript of records are considered to the calculation of the weighted average.
  • If the applicant has completed more than 55 ECTS credits that are required to the eligibility, all of the completed open study courses are considered to the calculation of the weighted average.
  • The average is calculated based on the overall grades of the courses indicated on the transcript; partial grades are not considered. (Though the credits of partial achievements are considered in the required total credit amount for eligibility).
  • The average includes courses assessed on a scale of 1 to 5. If a course is marked as P (pass) on the transcript, it is not included in the average calculation.
  • There is no minimum requirement for the number of numerically evaluated study courses. If the applicant does not have any numerically evaluated study courses from which the average could be calculated, the student selection is based on an interview.

*The weighted average differs from the calculation of a regular average in that the grade of each study achievement included in the average is weighted by the extent of the course, not the number of courses. To obtain the weighted average, multiply the grade of each study achievement by its credit value and divide the sum of these products by the total credit value of all study achievements.

Those applying to study in the field of Health Care and Social Services must have a sufficient good health status and functional capacity to be capable of completing practical assignments and work placement periods as part of the studies.
