Purchasing and Logistics experts ensure that goods, information, capital, and people move efficiently, effectively, and economically in both domestic and international environment. Logistics has a considerable role in ensuring the competitiveness and success of modern companies in both international and domestic business.

The programme will provide you with abilities to work in specialist and management positions in the field of purchasing and logistics. You will obtain the knowledge and skills to successfully plan, develop, implement and manage purchasing and logistics activities.

You will learn to study and work with people from different cultures and backgrounds in a truly international environment.

Study contents

Purchasing and Logistics Engineering is an excellent package of both engineering and business! You will begin your studies with the basics, like transferable skills, natural sciences, and engineering studies. After these, you will concentrate in mandatory professional studies, which are Economy and management, and your major studies, Purchasing & Global logistics operations.

You can choose your minor studies to specialise into two (2) modules of: Industrial logistics management, Entrepreneurship, Transportation, International business studies, or one module from Jamk's partner Universities worldwide.

Practical training is done normally during the summer semesters and final thesis in the final part of the studies.

Guidance and final thesis

A tutor teacher will help you during your student career, provide guidance in selecting courses and give advice on practical aspects of studying and student life.

In the final thesis you will demonstrate the skills and knowledge you have acquired in a practical challenge. Normally, the final thesis is done for companies in a real practical challenge in the final part of your studies. The final thesis consists of both theoretical and practical research.

Career opportunities

After graduation you might work as a Planner, Developer, Manager, Consultant, Trainer, Supervisor, Entrepreneur, Procurement Specialist, Buyer, Purchasing Engineer, Category buyer, Procurement and Sourcing analyst, Sourcing Specialist

Possible job titles include Logistics Engineer, Development Engineer, Purchasing Engineer, Inventory Manager, Supply Chain Coordinator, Warehouse Manager, Logistics Manager or Transport Manager.

Further studies

Students may, after graduation and a working career of at least two years, apply for studies leading up to a Master’s Degree. Studies can also be continued by applying for a university Master’s Degree programme. After a Bachelor’s Degree from a university of applied sciences, it is also possible to continue studies at higher education institutes abroad on Master’s Degree level programmes.

A student who completes a Master’s Degree at a university of applied sciences may apply to continue on to postgraduate studies in science or arts at universities (Act 558/2009, Section 37).

1. Application time 5 – 19 January 2022 by 3.00 pm on Studyinfo.fi

You can apply with upper secondary school certificate or with a higher education certificate. You can also apply even if your secondary school degree certificate is completed during the spring of applying (high school / senior secondary school certificate). JAMK uses also discretionary admission.

3. Selection methods and International UAS Exam

In Purchasing and Logistics Engineering, 90% of the students are selected by International UAS Exam and 10% by SAT test. SAT test is not compulsory. More information about SAT-test selection method (on 3. Student selection -section).

International UAS Exam

The online entrance examination's (International UAS Exam) first part/written part will be organised on 9 February 2022 at 12 pm (noon) Finnish time (UTC+2).
The second part/online group interview will be during 2 - 16 March 2022.

The entrance examination assesses the applicants’ abilities to study in universities of applied sciences. The entrance examination does not contain any pre-reading materials or pre-tasks. Applicant must score minimum points in order to be selected for admission.

4. Results and accepting the study place

Results are announced end of March at the earliest and on 3 June 2022, at the latest.

NON-EU/EEA citizens: pay the tuition fee payment as soon as possible
start the residence permit (if needed) application process immediately in April to be able to start your studies in August. The residence permit application process might take time over 2 months, so be in time!

The final deadline to accept the study place, enrol for attendance and pay the possible tuition fee is 15 July 2022 by 3:00 pm Finnish time. There are no tuition fees for Finnish or other EU/EEA-citizens.

Studies will begin in the middle of August 2022. Please, arrive to Jyväskylä, Finland by that time!
