TKT Training

TKT training

We offer a wide range of preparation courses for TKT exams and to support your individual language learning needs, including, for example, intensive weekend sessions (Fridays and Saturdays). All courses are designed to fulfil the requirements of 5 ECTS and are run throughout the academic year depending upon demand. The minimum/ maximum intake for each course is 15/20. These courses are available to practicing teachers and those not currently holding a teaching position.

The next TKT test date:

August 29th 2012 starting at 12.00 am.

The test will be held in Jyväskylä, at JAMK University of Applied Sciences, Lutakko campus (at Piippukatu 2).

At the moment we not dot offer face-to face language test preparatory courses, but you can take part in our on-line preparatory training.

Prices:

One (1) test + online course 165 EUR (including test and training material).
Two test (2) +online course 215 EUR (including tests and training material).
Three test (3) + online course 265 EUR (including test and training material)

TKT core module training 5 cr

The content of the training is:

Language and background to language learning and teaching

describing language and language skills
background to language learning
background to language teaching

Planning lessons and use of resources for language teaching

planning and preparing a lesson or sequence of lessons
selection and use of resources and materials.

Managing the teaching and learning process

teachers' and learners' language in the classroom
classroom management.

The exam will take place at the end of the course.

TKT:CLIL training 5 cr

The content of the training is:

Knowledge and Principles of CLIL

aims of and rationale for CLIL
language across the curriculum
communication skills across the curriculum
cognitive skills across the curriculum
learning skills across the curriculum

Planning, Teaching and Assessing

Lesson Preparation

planning a lesson and a series of lessons
language demands of subject content and accompanying tasks
resources, including multi-media and visual organisers
materials selection and adaptation
activity types

Lesson Delivery

classroom language
scaffolding content and language learning
methods to help students develop learning strategies
consolidating learning and differentiation

Assessment

focus: content; content and language; cognitive, learning and communication skills
types of assessment
support strategies

The exam will take place at the end of the course.

TKT:KAL training 5 cr

The content of the training is:

Lexis

Different types of meaning
Lexico-grammatical items
Sense relations
Register
Word formation
Terminology relating to lexis
Lexical phrases

Phonology

Segmental features
The role of phonology in conveying meaning
Suprasegmental features
The importance of phonology in discourse
Terminology relating to phonology

Grammar

The relationship of language to context
Language analysis - parts of speech and their function in context; form and use of structural
patterns
Terminology for analysing the form and meaning of language
Word classes and the functional role of word(s) in a sentence
Morphology: common morphemes and their function; affixation and word building
Grammatical roles performed by words in a sentence
The significance of context in determining meaning
Form, meaning and appropriacy

Discourse

Coherence
Cohesion
Register
Distinctive features of common written and spoken genres
The differences between pragmatic and semantic meaning
Functions

The exam will take place at the end of the course.
