Visual Communication and Dimensions of Editing is an introduction into the dimensions of montage and editing related to cinematic art and its comprehension. Through the analysis of cinematic examples Jarmo Valkola thinks that observers perceive, feel, interpret, think, and apply knowledge of the world when viewing and making sense of cinematic works of art.

This study integrates aesthetical, practical, and psychological approaches and concepts to understand the complex processes of film art and its interpretation. This book is intended for students, and scholars of film and media.

Jarmo Valkola, doctor of philosophy, is head of teaching & research in Media Design Programme at the School of Cultural Studies, Jyväskylä Polytechnic, and a docent in fi lm theory at the University of Jyväskylä.
