Student Union and Student Benefits
Student Union JAMKO
The student union JAMKO of JAMK University of Applied Sciences serves as the statutory supervisor of the interests of all JAMK’s students. In addition to its statutory duties, JAMKO also organises leisure time activities for all students. By joining JAMKO, you can also get benefits with your student card.
JAMKO supervises the interests of students by selecting student members to JAMK organs, by influencing decision-making at municipal level, by issuing opinions and by providing students with information about topical matters. JAMKO is also responsible for organising JAMK’s tutoring activities (student mentoring and guidance).
JAMKO provides a broad range of leisure activities. You can do fitness training at gyms, at indoor swimming pools or as a member of KOOLS, the students’ own sports club. Events range from outdoor fitness events to relaxed evening get-togethers and large student parties. Many of the events have an international flavour. The student union also has a café at its Rajakatu premises. At JAMKO’s office, students can get photocopies at a low price and have their final theses bound.
The representatives are the highest decision-making body in JAMKO. Each year the representatives select a board for managing JAMKO’s day-to-day affairs. All board members are students. JAMKO also has hired staff supporting the elected officials.
JAMKO’s office is located at the end of F-wing (FP23) at main campus (Rajakatu 35).
Student benefits
As a student member of JAMKO, you get a blue or green student card, which also serves as an official national student card. The blue student card is intended for full-time degree students. The only difference between the blue and green student cards is that the latter one does not entitle the holder to any discounts on long-distance trains or coaches. For more information about the terms and conditions for issuing the cards, go to JAMKO's website.
Both cards provide you with a broad range of benefits and discounts, both locally and nationwide. To check the benefits available in Jyväskylä, go to JAMKO-coordinated ‘Opiskelijan Jyväskylä’ (Student’s Jyväskylä) website.
By showing your student card, you get the KELA-provided meal support in all student cafeterias. It also serves as a library card at JAMK libraries. Naturally, the student card also gives you discounts at JAMKO-organised events, trips and courses.
Getting a student card
By getting a student card you also become a member of the student union. Joining JAMKO is easy because you can do it online at the student union’s website.
The membership is valid for one year or one semester at a time. After this, you can renew your membership online. In connection with the renewal, you will get a sticker indicating that the card is valid. To become a member and to order a student card, go to JAMKO's website. You can pay the membership fee online or at JAMKO’s membership service points.
Remember to attach a digital facial image to your card application. If necessary, you can have the picture taken at JAMKO’s office.
