Student Health Services in Jyväskylä

City of Jyväskylä Social and Health Services are in charge of student health services at JAMK. Student health services are available to all students from Monday to Friday, irrespective of where they come from. Student health services include health care (health examinations, vaccinations, birth control, etc.), medical care, mental health care, and monitoring of the health conditions of the study environment. The work is carried out by a public health nurse and a doctor.

Please contact the public health nurse to make an appointment with the doctor. For information on the services of psychologist, physiotherapist, nutrition and speech therapist, please contact the public health nurse.

Unit-specific information is provided by the public health nurse at the beginning of the academic year, and on the notice boards. Note that there are some specific rules and instructions about the health services for foreign students.

Health Centres, First Aid and Fees

Please contact your closest Health Centre in case of acute illness or accident.

  • Doctor's appointment Mon-Thu 8-16 at your local health centre 13.70 €/visit (first three times a calendar year, after that you can visit a doctor for free of charge).
  • First aid Mon-Fri 8-20 at the local health centre of your living area or Central Hospital 13.70 €/visit
  • First aid during the week 20-8 and on weekends 27.40 € at the Central Hospital of Central Finland, Keskussairaalantie 19 , tel. +358 100 84884. In an emergency, call the emergency number 112.
  • Penalty fee for no-show appointment 33.80 €
  • Note! The fees are different for non-EU citizens.

Dental Care

Students registered in Jyväskylä are entitled to dental care in their closest dental clinic. Students not registered in Jyväskylä can be provided urgent dental care (e.g. for toothache, tooth accident or inflamed wisdom tooth) in the local dental clinics of their living areas.

On weekends (Sat, Sun and public holidays) the urgent first aid for inflammation, toothache or tooth accident has to be reserved by phone at 9-10, tel. +358 (0)14 266 2298.

Other times the urgent first aid is provided at the general emergency service of the municipal health centre, which also refers patients to further treatment if necessary. Tel. +358 (0)14 266 0123.

Dental care at municipal health centres is subject to statutory fees.
