I would like to welcome all new students and graduate students to JAMK University of Applied Sciences at the start of the 2011-2012 academic year.

At JAMK, you will have an excellent opportunity to build yourself a flexible study path in accordance with your own needs. The multidisciplinary nature of JAMK means that you can include courses from more than one degree programme in your studies, while at the same time, modern and obstacle-free learning environments provide you with a broad range of study options. You can also take courses abroad, either as studies or as practical training. You can also become internationally oriented in Finland by attending courses given in a foreign language in a multicultural environment or by acting as a tutor for a foreign student.

During practical training and in research and development projects, you can establish contacts with actors in working life, which make it easier for you to find work when you graduate. Entrepreneurship learning is important, both for us and Finnish society as a whole. We encourage our students to become entrepreneurs by offering entrepreneurship studies and by providing support in the creation of business concepts and innovations through Generator activities. The variety of services available at JAMK provide a risk-free environment for getting acquainted with entrepreneurship and for entrepreneurship studies. You are invited to make use of them.

As a student, you are the key actor in your own learning process. The task of the teacher is to help you to succeed in your studies and to support you in your study path. Becoming an expert is a matter of being an active and responsible student from the outset and by taking a self-directed approach to your studies. These qualities are also highly valued in working life. Skilled teaching staff and extensive support services, such as counselling, student services, study psychologist and international services, guarantee you a smooth study path.

The study years are the best time of your life. They are more than just hard work. The youthful city of Jyväskylä provides excellent opportunities for a broad range of leisure activities.
