The Location and campuses of JAMK
JAMK has several campuses in the city of Jyväskylä and a campus in Saarijärvi.
Jyväskylä
Jyväskylä is a vital and youthful city located in Central Finland, surrounded by lakes, ridges and forests. For its central location, the city is easy to reach from the other parts of Finland. Its population totals over 130 800, a fifth of them students. If the neighbouring areas are included, over 170 000 people live in the Jyväskylä Region.
Jyväskylä is known for its valuable history and present day as an educational city. It is the second most significant trade fair city in Finland and an innovative pioneer in architecture, following the way of the world-famous architect Alvar Aalto.
The centre of Jyväskylä is small in terms of area, and relatively densely built, so it is easy to explore by bike and on foot. The pedestrian street in the centre is a popular venue for meeting friends and gathering at various events, in addition to providing shopping centres, cafes and restaurants.
Jyväskylä is located at the northern end of Lake Päijänne, the second largest lake in Finland. The city provides excellent opportunities to connect with nature: you will reach lakes, forests and hills within a short walking distance from the centre. Even the very centre of the city is located between Lake Jyväsjärvi and the Harju ridge.

Saarijärvi
Saarijärvi is a scenic town with over 10 000 inhabitants, located in the north-western part of Central Finland, surrounded by varied hill and ridge landscapes. Saarijärvi has a versatile business structure: the major companies operate in the metal, graphic and woodworking industry. The field of natural resources is also one of the city’s strengths, partly because of the Institute of Natural Resources of JAMK.
Saarijärvi offers cultural and tourism services all year round, including e.g. camping Ahvenlampi and the Stone Age Village. One of the main employers of the town is Spa Hotel Summassaari. The central location of Saarijärvi close to highways 4 and 13 make the town easily accessible. Jyväskylä lies at about 65 kilometres from Saarijärvi.
The Institute of Natural Resources and Bioenergy Development Centre of JAMK are located in Saarijärvi (Tuumalantie 17).
