The Degree Programme in Software Engineering has two specialization options: Programming Technology and Electronics System Programming. The choice between them is made at the end of the first year.
The option of electronics system programming covers the holistic design of IT devices and their international productization. The option of programming technology includes the construction of software for PC devices, www browsers, mobile phones, and for the Linux and Windows environments. You can study computer games design and programming, which is a unique opportunity in Finland. You will also learn to produce embedded software for the needs of industry and business.
Content of Studies
The studies of electronics focus on the design of embedded systems, simulators, modelling tools, the productization of electronics, and test design. The programming option concentrates on mobile, network and game programming.
Implementation of Studies
The programme includes lectures, assignments, exams, team work, and online learning. Measuring exercises are performed in the unit’s EMC laboratory, specifically designed for electromagnetic radiation measurements. Learning by doing is a central teaching method. You will apply the main software development tools used in companies.
Each year, the degree programme offers 15 students the opportunity to complete the module Electronic Studies in Asia (15 cr) in Singapore (http://singapore.jamk.fi).
The software project, carried out at the final stage of studies, will provide you with the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the needs of the industry. The degree also includes a practical training, necessary for networking and creating important contacts with potential future employers. At the same time, it is an introduction to the operation and tasks of a company of the field.
Eligibility Criteria
You must have logical and analytical thinking skills to complete the programme.
Employment Prospects
The engineers graduating from the programming technology option can work as implementers of Internet services, programmers of graphic user interfaces, or as developers of databases and telecommunication applications.
The graduates of the electronics system programming option can be employed in a variety of international ICT positions, involving e.g. design, purchase, quality, product management, project and marketing tasks. The extensive degree structure of electronics engineers enables them also to start a company of their own.
Admission Criteria and Applying
You can apply for admission if you have completed general upper secondary education, the matriculation examination or if you have a vocational qualification. If you will graduate during the spring in which you are submitting your application, please refer to your latest school certificate in your application.
