Programme in Mechanical and Production Engineering

In the Degree Programme in Mechanical and Production Engineering, you will learn to utilize and manage production and quality systems and manufacturing processes. Or alternatively, you can orient your studies towards machine design. The completed project assignments strongly contribute to the creation of a comprehensive network in the business world.

Content of Studies

The first two years consist of the basic studies, completed together with the other students of mechanical engineering. Depending on the orientation, the main topic areas of the studies are

  • production and quality systems
  • manufacturing processes
  • automation
  • machine design
  • user-centred product development
  • maintenance
  • project work

Depending on your orientation, you can choose from the following specialization options:

  • production development
  • managerial skills in production
  • design
  • actuator technology

Implementation of Studies

The programme consists of lectures, team and project work, laboratory work, online learning and exams. It also includes a practical training completed in companies of the industry, worth 30 ECTS credits. The practical training takes place during the autumn or spring semester of the third year, depending on the specialization option. Practical training and part of the studies can also be completed outside Finland.

Eligibility Criteria

Studies in the programme call for an interest in technology and in the development of the industry. Project assignments for companies are an important part of the studies.

Employment Prospects

As many as 81% of the graduates of the Degree Programme in Mechanical and Production Engineering had a job upon graduation in 2007.

The graduates are employed in expert, design, development and managerial tasks of industrial production. Possible job titles include e.g. designer, production manager, manufacturing manager, supervisor, or quality manager.

Admission Criteria and Applying

You can apply for admission if you have completed general upper secondary education, the matriculation examination or if you have a vocational qualification. If you will graduate during the spring in which you are submitting your application, please refer to your latest school certificate in your application.

Eligibility for Further Studies

After graduation as a Bachelor of Engineering, you can continue your studies at a university of applied sciences. With three years of work experience you can apply for admission to a master’s programme of the field. At the School of Engineering and Technology, you can choose either the Master’s Degree Programme in Logistics or that in Technological Competence Management.
