Elective Studies 2012-2013
All the students can choose and complete at least 15 ECTS credits of elective studies, providing them with the opportunity to individually broaden and deepen professional competence and personal development. Elective studies can be selected from
-
the elective courses of one’s own unit / degree programme
-
the offering of other degree programmes
-
the offering of the interdisciplinary elective courses of JAMK
-
other universities of applied sciences, universities or other higher education institutions.
The elective studies must consist of at least bachelor’s level courses. The career tutor can recommend courses which are closely related to the professional field. Students must have their elective courses and the respective credits accepted by the head of programme in advance, if these courses are not selected from the elective studies of JAMK, after which they can be included in personal learning plan (PLP).
Elective Interdisciplinary Courses
JAMK has made a joint decision on the courses included in the elective interdisciplinary studies.
The course schedule indicates the period in which the courses are implemented: Elective interdisciplinary courses in the course schedule
The interdisciplinary courses include courses from all the units:
*) BSM = School of Business and Services Management
Organising Elective Interdisciplinary Courses
Starting autumn 2012, interdisciplinary elective courses will not take place at a predetermined time of the week, but the units will be allowed to decide on their schedules independently. In the autumn semester, the elective studies begin in week 36 (the week starting on 3 September 2012), and those of the spring semester in week 3 (the week starting on 14 January 2013).
Some elective courses are offered during weekends to facilitate the participation of adult students. Students in youth education can also attend these courses if there is room in the course. Part of the weekend courses are intensive courses. The number of contact classes included in the weekend courses is smaller and the amount of independent work larger than in the other courses. Some elective courses are also offered in the summer.
Registration for Elective Interdisciplinary Courses
Registration for elective courses takes place within the same registration periods and in the same way (i.e. via the Asio) as for other courses.
Registration is binding. Registrations may be cancelled or changed during the registration period, and it is possible to simultaneously check the real-time situation of course registrations.
The courses are filled in order of registration. The registration system indicates when a course is full and registration is no longer possible. The course is implemented if enough students (usually at least 18) have registered for it. A list of courses to be implemented can be seen at the Student Affairs Offices of the schools after the registration period.
