Our libraries are well-equipped and provide free computer services and Internet access. We arrange Finnish language courses for our international students, as well as courses in other languages. International mobility at JAMK University of Applied Sciences was active in 2010
International operation is active at JAMK University of Applied Sciences (JAMK), which is demonstrated by the annually collected statistics of international mobility. Students go abroad to do studies or practical training as a part of their degree, to take part in an international project or to compile their thesis for an international enterprise/organization. Respectively, students from foreign partner institutions arrive to JAMK to develop their own professional skills, all the while internationalising the community of our higher education institution and Central Finland as well. A considerable part of staff participates yearly in staff mobility abroad, which can include e.g. teaching in a partner institution or operating within R&D projects. Also, foreign teachers and experts arrive to JAMK every year for different assignments and tasks, bringing their own expertise into the cooperation.
In total 240 students went abroad for a period of over three months, about half of them to do studies for their degree and about half to do a practical training. The amount increased by 6,6 per cent compared to the year 2009. 248 students participated in short, approximately 1-2 week long periods abroad, such as Study Tours, which is double the amount of the previous year. Respectively, 197 international students and 28 practical trainees came to JAMK for one or two semesters and 172 international students came to JAMK for shorter periods. Student mobility in long-term periods abroad was most active in the educational fields of Social sciences, business and administration, Technology, communication and transport as well as Tourism, catering and domestic services. Student mobility was performed mostly within the Erasmus programme.
Staff mobility within teaching and expert tasks was also active. In total 97 staff members of JAMK visited partner institutions abroad with teaching purposes. Furthermore, 214 experts travelled abroad for education, R&D and corporate cooperation purposes. The total amount of staff mobility abroad increased by 6,5 per cent. Respectively, 148 foreign teachers and experts from partner institutions and organizations abroad came to JAMK during 2010.
The most popular target countries for students and staff were Germany, Russia, Great Britain, Sweden and Belgium. The most students, teachers and experts came to JAMK from Spain, Germany, Russia, the Netherlands and Austria. 53 per cent of participants in international mobility were female.
