Course description
5 ects, The theme of the course is to how to strengthen the resilience of couples, families and communities in nursing by building the positive capacity and promoting sexual health on every stage of life. The significance of social and cultural factors for family and community health promotion will be introduced and studied. The Pedagogical framework for the course is blended learning which refers to a mixing of different learning environments. It is a learning method that combines e learning and social media with other forms of flexible learning and more traditional forms of learning such as face to face classes. Team teaching and open source social networking platform will be used during the course due to sharing intercultural knowledge about the topic and teaching methods. During the course the participants orientate themselves into the use of social media as a facilitator for learning and teaching. Students are divided into mixed working groups during the intensive course. The list of group participants will be sent out by mail prior to coming to Jyväskylä . The workload is distributed in 5 scheduled intensive days (1.5 ECTS) plus pre- and post-course work (1,5 ECTS)
The contents are
• Ethical principles of family and community nursing
• The concepts of resilience, positive capacity and sexual health promotion in the context of family nursing
• The significant transitions and situations on lifetime of the couples and families
• The significance of social and cultural factors and diversity for family and community sexual health promotion.
• The interventions used by nurses, public health nurses and midwives which strengthen the resilience of couples, families and communities.
• The interventions used by health care professionals which can be used to build positive capacity of couples and families and to promote their sexual health
• Social media work as a platform of sexual health promotion for couples and families
• Critical appraisal tools which can be used to assess the impact of social media into learning environment and guidance for families alike.
Course objectives
After participating this course the student will be able to:
1) Know the perspective of family as a client in the community.
2) Understand the concept of resilience.
3) Recognize the concept of sexual health promotion in the context of family nursing.
4) Be aware and understand the evidence-based family and community nursing.
5) Learn how to build a positive capacity for couples, families and communities in context of nursing.
6) Understand the significance of social and cultural factors and diversity for family and community.
7) Apply and develop nursing interventions which strengthen and support the resilience of couples and families in different life situations.
8) Analyze and evaluate social media as a platform of information and use it as a tool in educating/informing couples, families and communities.
9) Work according to the ethical principles in family and community nursing settings.
10) Take responsibility for collaborative learning and sharing knowledge in teams.
11) Take into account the effects and opportunities of internationalization in their own field and be able to create international networks and partnerships throughout the course.
