I am glad I took the chance
Essi Pöysti, Miss Finland 2009, Nursing
Why did you choose JAM University of Applied Sciences?
In a way, it was by chance. I lived in Norway, and the JAMK entrance examination took place at the same time as my matriculation examination there. Fortunately JAMK's examination arrangements were flexible and I was able to do the written examination at the Finnish Embassy in Oslo. The interview was conducted on the phone. I didn’t think I would be selected, but at the beginning of June I got a letter telling me that I had a place in the Degree Programme in Nursing at JAMK. My first thought was “Oh, my God!” Where will I live, what is Jyväskylä like? I am glad I took the chance. I am very pleased with my studies in Jyväskylä.
Why Jyväskylä?
I have lived abroad for three years, and before that in Helsinki, the capital of Finland. If I continue my studies after the Bachelor’s degree, I will definitely come to Jyväskylä. It is a hub that brings students together from all over Finland and the whole world, and the atmosphere is just great.
A student life has become very familiar. I have been concentrating on my studies, so I haven't worked while studying - you only live once a relaxed life of a student! However, during this year I have focused more on the duties of Miss Finland and haven't had time to study as a full time student. Return to normal student life awaits me.
Essi and a group of other students attended the JAMK stand at the Studia Fair in Helsinki and told the visitors about student life at JAMK. More than 14 000 young people visited Studia in November. Life at JAMK offers dozens of opportunities for both studies and also for having fun. Here you can learn by doing, but as always in life, success is up to you!
