How to Apply for JAMK’s Bachelor's Degree Programmes

Applicant's Guide 2010

The degree-awarding programmes conducted in English can be applied for once a year. Application period to JAMK was 11 January - 12 February 2010 at 4.15 pm Finnish time. Applications are submitted online through the national joint application system at www.admissions.fi. The site also provides detailed information on
•    required certificates
•    options of preference and changing the application
•    selection of new students, entrance examinations

Entry Requirements

Eligibility to apply for higher education studies can be obtained with

  • general upper secondary school (ylioppilastutkinto/lukio)
  • vocational qualification (ammatillinen tutkinto), further information at admissions.fi
  • International Baccalaureate, Reifeprüfung or European Baccalaureate examination
  • vocational college diploma or higher vocational diploma
  • foreign degree/qualification which gives eligibility for higher education in the awarding country.

 All eligible applicants will be invited to entrance examinations.

EU/EEA citizens are able to apply even if the degree certificate is completed during the spring of applying. The admission of such EU/EEA –applicant is conditional until the polytechnic/UAS has checked the applicant’s final degree certificates.

Applicants with education completed outside Finland

Those applicants who are applying with non-Finnish qualifications must have the final degree certificate by the end of the application period.

Please enclose the following documents with the application

  • copies of the original degree certificate
  • authorised translation of the certificate if needed (in English, Finnish or Swedish, the translation must have the translators’ signature and stamp)
  • English language proficiency certificate (see the information below)

English Language Certificate - Programmes starting in autumn 2010

NON-EU/EEA CITIZENS must provide proof of the English language skills by 19th of February 2010 at 4.15 pm Finnish time to the admissions office of first preference polytechnic/UAS . In order to prove the applicant’s English language skills, they must provide one of the following minimum requirements:

  • IELTS score academic level 6.0 (copy is enough)
  • TOEFL score 550 paper-based test/ 213 computer-based/ 79-80 internet -based test
  • grade C in the Finnish matriculation examination in advanced level English (IB-examination grade 4 completed in Finland, Reifeprüfung –examination grade 7 completed in Finland or EB-examination grade 6.00-6.95)
  • skills level 4 in English in the Finnish general language examination.

If you have completed your primary and secondary school education or Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English in Great Britain, Ireland, the United States, Canada, Australia or New Zealand you are exempted from the language test.

TOEFL and IELTS test results are valid for two years. TOEFL score results are accepted only directly from the Educational Testing Service. JAMK University of Applied Sciences Toefl code is 0719.

EU/EEA CITIZENS it is not necessary to provide a language test by the set date. However, if language test has not been provided, an applicant must complete it as a part of the entrance exam. If an applicant wants to provide the language test before the set date (19th of February 2010) accepted language tests are mentioned above.

Timetable for Applicants - Programmes starting in autumn 2010

  • All required enclosures must be at the admissions office of the applicant's first-choice university of applied sciences by 19 February 2010 at 4.15 p.m. Finnish time. Faxed or scanned copies are not accepted.

  • Entrance examination invitations or decisions on eligibility are posted by mail from 12 March onwards. Entrance examinations (dates and places).
  • Results are announced on 28 May 2010, at the earliest.
  • Admitted students must confirm their study places by 3 August 2010 at 4.15 p.m.  Finnish time, at the latest.
  • Studies will begin end of August 2010.
